Summer Games PlusTM Take the plunge with a buffered electrolyte paste !!
Horses sweat! As they sweat, horses lose not only water but also vital electrolytes.
Using the same formula in Summer Games Electrolyte, Summer Games Plus
replaces key electrolyte and contains buffering agents that support a normal gastric
environment. Summer Games Plus is packaged in an easy-to-use syringe so
administration is fast and accurate.

WHEN AND HOW TO USE
What horses need Summer Games Plus?
Electrolyte supplementation is indicated anytime a horse sweats repeatedly in a day
or consistently over the course of several days. Supplementation is appropriate if
sweat appears
during or after training sessions or competitions.
while being transported, regardless of the length of trip.
when a horse is placed in unfamiliar surroundings such as temporary stabling.
when a horse is standing in his stall or turned out in his paddock on hot and humid
days.
Important Note:
Always provide horses receiving electrolyte supplementation with free-choice,
clean water. Lack of adequate water in horses supplemented with electrolytes may
lead to dehydration and other serious metabolic disorders.
Directions for Use:
Each 60-cc tube supplies 1 ounce of Summer Games Electrolyte.
Level of Training Normal
Environment (oz/day)
Hot,
Humid Environment
(oz/day)
Rest 0 1
Light Work 1 1-2
Moderate Work 2 2-3
Heavy Work 3 3-4
Administer no more than two tubes in a single offering.
Guidelines for Determining Amount of Summer Games Plus to Offer:
Light Work: Visible Sweat (up to 5 liters sweat loss) For example: dressage,
western and English pleasure, trail horses, equitation, etc.
Moderate Work: Dripping Sweat (5 - 10 liters sweat loss) For example: jumping
horses, racehorses, barrel racing, cutting, roping, etc.
Heavy Work: Dripping Sweat for Extended Periods (more than 10 liters sweat
loss) For example: upper level three-day event and western performance horses,
polo ponies
How do I administer Summer Games Plus?
Summer Games Plus is an oral paste.
How do I know if my horse is working hard enough to require electrolyte
supplementation?
Any level of work produces body heat and subsequent sweating. The sweat may
be evaporating before you see it. Also take into consideration factors such as the
time your horse spends in a trailer or tied to the trailer at an event during the heat
of the day. The stress of unfamiliar environments alone can cause your horse to
sweat. Under any of these circumstances, the electrolytes that are lost in sweat
cannot be replaced from the daily ration of grain and forage alone.
How often and how much electrolyte supplementation does my horse need?
Summer Games Plus can be used as a daily supplement. The amount of
supplementation will depend on the level of work and the intensity of the heat and
humidity the horse is working in. Consult the feeding directions for specific
feeding levels.
What will happen if I give my horse too much electrolyte?
The most important thing to remember when supplementing a horse diet with
electrolytes is to provide free choice, clean water. In situations where electrolyte is
given in excess of requirements, the horse’s system will filter the unused minerals
and excrete the excess in the urine. As long as plenty of water is provided to wash
away the excess, the potential for harm is minimal.
How is Summer Games Plus different from Endura-Max Plus?
Endura-Max Plus was formulated specifically for endurance horses. The amount
of sweat loss in an endurance horse far exceeds that of any other sport horse.
During long rides, calcium and magnesium may be lost in amounts high enough to
cause metabolic disorders. Endura-Max Plus contains added calcium and
magnesium in highly available forms.
INGREDIENTS THAT WORK

SCIENTIFICALLY FORMULATED
Summer Games Plus is a buffered oral electrolyte
supplement for horses. When horses sweat, they lose
a significant amount of essential electrolytes
necessary for top performance, particularly sodium,
chloride, and potassium. Summer Games Plus is
formulated to replace these key electrolytes in the
exact amounts and ratios in which they are lost.
How is Summer Games Plus different from other
electrolyte products?
Summer Games Plus contains the same electrolyte
formulation as Summer Games Electrolyte, which
was originally formulated for the horses competing at
the 1996 Olympics. The formulation was based on
the results of research conducted in anticipation of
the Games, which were held in Atlanta, known for its
hot, humid summers. Summer Games Plus mimics
the composition of equine sweat, supplying the horse
with the exact amounts and ratios of electrolytes
relinquished in sweat. Summer Games Plus contains
no sugar like many popular commercial electrolyte
supplements.
Summer Games Plus also contains a buffering agent
that helps create a soothing gastric environment. This
is especially important for horses subjected to the
stresses often related to top performance such
exertion, transportation, and unfamiliar stabling and
atmosphere.
ELECTROLYTE FACTS
What are electrolytes?
Electrolytes are substances that dissociate in solution
into electrically charged particles called ions. The
major electrolytes are sodium (Na+), potassium (K+),
chloride (Cl-) and magnesium (Mg++).
What is the role of electrolytes?
Electrolytes play an important role in maintaining
osmotic pressure, fluid balance, and nerve and
muscle activity.
What happens without electrolytes?
Loss of electrolytes causes fatigue and muscle
weakness, and decreases the thirst response to
dehydration.
What is the visible difference in horses receiving
electrolyte supplementation?
Horses offered electrolytes tend to rebound from hard
exercise sooner, return to feed quicker and begin the
necessary rebuilding phase that occurs after exertion.
What is the best way to estimate electrolyte loss?
Electrolyte requirements can be determined by
measuring sweat loss. Fluid loss can be estimated by
measuring body weight loss with this simple formula:
1 kg (2.2 lb) body weight loss = 0.9 liters (approx. 1
quart) body water loss, so an
11-lb body weight loss = approx. 5 liters sweat loss
(light work) = 2 oz per day of Summer Games Plus.
